Hull FC failed to move into the top half of the Betfred Super League table after suffering a disappointing 12-4 defeat to Toulouse.
Interim boss Andy Last hoped to capitalise on the win they secured against Castleford Tigers in his first match in charge since becoming caretaker for a second time.
Instead, they slipped to a Toulouse side who had suffered seven straight league defeats before their trip to the MKM Stadium.
The visitors scored two tries within the first 10 minutes, the first via Olly Ashall-Bott just five minutes in.
Joe Cator added a second four minutes later, and Jake Shorrocks successfully booted the extras for a second time.
Tom Briscoe got Hull on the board with nine minutes remaining in the first half, but they could not claw back any more points after Zak Hardaker missed the conversion.
A more determined Hull emerged in the second half, when they forced the French side to defend resolutely against waves of attack, but could never find the breakthrough.
Ashall-Bott ensured the hosts would not narrow the gap with a brilliant clearance under the posts with 15 minutes remaining.
